Assessment
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. This course requires an assessment of your practical skills within your working environment. It is essential that you secure a placement that can provide you with a suitably qualified teacher and workplace assessor who can observe you, comment on your skills and write a report to meet the assessment requirements. This direct observation will be used as evidence towards your qualifications. Methods of assessment could include:
- Direct observation of practice
- Witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy
- Professional discussion
- Reflection on own practice in real work situations
- Written assignments
This course is assessed by a series of assignments which are submitted to your tutor for marking and a range of evidence types gained from a work placement. No external examination is required.
How do I get my work assessed?
You will complete your assignments from home and send your work to your tutor for them to mark. They will return the assignment to you once they have marked it with detailed feedback and pointers for your next assignment.
Delivery
You will study this course by distance learning, which will enable you to take control of your studies. You can study at your own pace from a place that suits you. All your learning materials will be posted or emailed to you online, depending on the learning method you choose. You will also receive our tutor support by email, so help is only ever a click away.
Who's it for?
This course is for anyone looking to work in a teaching assistant role or any other role that supports pupils’ learning.
Do I need to be working in a school to enrol onto this course?
Yes, you will need to be working or on practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. The recommended number of placement hours for this course is 100 hours. It is important that your work placement follows the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1 or above. It is essential you secure a placement that can provide you with a suitably qualified teacher (holding QTS) who can act as your workplace assessor to provide written observations on your practice (at least three are required during your placement).
