The Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning nested qualification

Duration study load
Once enrolled, you have up to 18 months to complete your course. The course will take approximately 530 hours to complete. You will receive a full year to complete the course, which is a lot more time than you will need. This allows you to work at your own pace, without the pressure of tight deadlines.
Entry requirements
This course is part of a nested suite and it can be studied by learners over the age of 16 and you do not need any previous qualifications.
However, students must have basic IT skills and be fluent in English. If you choose to study this course, you must also be working or volunteering in a school or college from key stage one as this course requires you to complete a work placement and provide evidence and observations as part of your assessment.

Assessment
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification. This course requires an assessment of your practical skills within your working environment. It is essential that you secure a placement in key stage one (KS1) or above that can provide you with a suitably qualified teacher (to act as your workplace assessor) who can observe you, comment on your skills and sign the workplace evidence that you submit for your assessments. Direct observations are mandatory and will be used as evidence towards your qualifications. Methods of assessment could include:
- Direct observation of practice
- Recorded professional discussions
- Reflection on own practice in real work situations
- Written assignments
- Question and answer sessions
Students will be required to be working or on placement within a school or college environment (KS1 or above) to enable them to provide the evidence required to complete the qualification. It is recommended that learners complete 200 placement hours.

Do I need to be working in a school to enrol onto this course?
Yes, you will need to be working, volunteering, or on a practical placement as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. The recommended number of placement hours is 200 hours. It is important that your work placement follows the national curriculum at key stage one or above. It is essential you secure a placement that can provide you with a suitably qualified teacher (holding QTS) who can act as your workplace assessor to provide written observations on your practice. Your workplace assessor will also need to sign off any additional evidence that you provide for your assessment relating to your placement.
