Start HereCompTIA A+ will test how well you know your IT fundamentals, such as troubleshooting, PC repair, networking, mobile devices and their hardware. It will equip you with the knowledge to solve issues with Linux, Microsoft, OS X models and other widely used operating systems. The exam consists of 90 questions, that includes multiple choice and drag and drops, along with performance-based questions, which will test how well you solve issues in a simulated environment.
While this type of certification is a good starting point for you, it also highly sought-after. CompTIA A+ can be a decisive factor in whether or not a particular company will employ you. It is internationally recognised and vendor-neutral, meaning that it has broad compatibility across the board. In other words, it will widen your circle of career options, and you’re more likely to be more satisfied with your position. Also, since employers look for candidates who have a CompTIA A+ certification, you’re more likely to get a higher pay with one. The median annual salary for CompTIA A+ certification jobs in the UK is £26,500.
All you have to do is take the exam and pass, but like any other exam, studying is necessary. There are plenty of courses that will get you prepared for the exam. All you really need to have to complete these courses is a general familiarity with computers and networks. If you want to go even further, the CompTIA A+ website provides ebooks and eLearning tools to ensure that you’re fully prepared. There are also plenty of online videos that can teach you about more specific topics if there’s one that you’re stuck on in particular, along with practice questions similar to what will be on the exam. Several online communities like Reddit and LinkedIn can also provide helpful hints and advice for newcomers.
Please note that these exams can be changed quite regularly, so be sure that the content you are studying for is relevant to your particular exam. Also, keep in mind that as of now, you must renew your certification every three years by either retaking the exam or paying a CEU (Continuing Education Units).
To register for the exam, you will need to visit the Pearson VUE website and create an account. Once you have an account, you can register your preferred time and testing centre. In order to finalise your registration, you will have to pay with either a credit card or an exam voucher, which can be purchased from the CompTIA Marketplace.
