About Ethical Hacking
Reasons to Work in Ethical Hacking

About Ethical Hacking

With the rise in malicious hackers making security experts anxious, companies have started employing ethical hacking companies and individual ethical hackers to perform penetration testing – basically paying “white hat hackers” to test if their systems can keep black hat hackers out. An ethical hacker spends their day testing computer systems, information systems, network security and company computer networks to discover if the organisation is vulnerable to cyber attacks of any description.

Reasons to Work in Ethical Hacking

1. The work is only growing

Security analysts warn us that the rate of unethical hacking is growing, and hackers have an in-depth knowledge of how to get around firewalls and other software development designed to keep them out. This means that the job market for “penetration testers”, or ethical hackers, is growing.

2. You can use ethical hacking to help people

We all know someone who’s had their credit card details stolen, or heard about information security system failing and revealing people’s personal details. Ethical hackers use hacking tools to make a difference in the real world by security testing web servers and systems and strengthening weaknesses. If you’ve done some self-study about hacking techniques and enjoy the challenge of it, but want to work on the side of the good guys, then ethical hacking could be the perfect way to both use your skills and help people.

3. There are lots of accredited training centres offering training

Unsurprisingly, companies’ security officers like to know that when they’re hiring someone to do penetration testing of their IT systems that they actually are a certified ethical hacker, so generally to work in the industry you need to have a formal qualification and while you can work for yourself, most people start out in a company. The good news is that ethical hacking certifications are relatively easy to come by. Certification training is available at a number of location all over the UK, and can be done as a short course if you’re already employed as something like a project manager looking to specialise in an area like windows, or as a bigger general course if you don’t have any prior work experience or training courses under your belt. Most courses will result in you having a job title like a “certified security analyst”.

Regardless of how much training you’ve already done, there’s always a course that will help prepare you to work at the top of the field, which in the case of ethical hacking, could mean you end up the chief information security officer, responsible for the overall security of a company’s information systems and web supplication! If you think this could one day be you, check out our list of available certified ethical hacker course online today!
