A certificate course is similar to a diploma in that you gain a qualification at the end of it and it is shorter than a degree course. However, unlike a diploma, certificate courses usually take months instead of years to complete. Certificate courses are based around a specific skill or career, and although less involved than a degree or diploma, they can help you increase your knowledge, gain accreditation for your current role or get your foot in the door for a career you are interested in. Check out our range of certificate courses and get started today!

Online Certificate courses also available
How long are certificate courses?
Certificate courses usually take 3-6 months to complete, depending on your level and the area of study you wish to pursue. You can take a certificate course either at an institution or study it entirely online. Online courses are great for those who want flexibility and to study at their own pace from anywhere in the United Kingdom. You can also rest assured that the courses will cover everything you need to know to achieve your professional goals.
Who should take a certificate course?
Certificate courses range from entry level to level 8 while the specific course you take depends on your current level of experience. They cover a range of subject areas from data analysis to English language certificates, with a recognised qualification at the end of the course. For example, you can obtain an official Certificate in Bookkeeping if you have some experience and want to gain official accreditation by the Institution of Certified Bookkeepers; or if you are looking to increase your skills in bookkeeping for your own business.Â
As well as courses which require some prior skills or knowledge, there are also recognised certificate courses such as the NEBOSH Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, which are suitable for anyone without experience looking to get into construction and/or health and safety. There are a variety of certificate courses available online which are open to those with experience as well as those without, including:
- CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate in HR Practice
- Web Design and Development Certificate (RQF) Level 3
- Level 4 Certificate in Health and Social Care
- CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership
- Certificate in Xero Accounting
- Certified Associate in Project Management
As well as certificates to help you get into (or progress in) a particular career, there are also certificate courses available for those from a more academic background. Higher education and postgraduate certificates are designed for those who have completed A-Levels or a bachelor’s degree and are looking to further their study. They are often the equivalent of a master’s or a bachelor’s degree, but are generally shorter courses and don’t include a dissertation at the end. These, too, can be studied online.
How can a certificate course help me in my career?
Upon successful completion of your certificate course, you will have opened up a new world of opportunity. Some certificate courses such as the NEBOSH health and safety certificates are widely recognised qualifications, often required for work in health and safety roles.Â
Certificate courses can also be a huge part of your CPD (continuous personal/professional development) as they show that you are keen to increase your skills and knowledge by learning new things; whether it’s for a new career or to keep up to date with new information for your current role.
